What Will They Think Of Next?

Italian company, Comau, hopes that one of the products it manufacturers {a giant robotic arm} will become a landmark for Southfield {Detroit, Michigan, US}, where the company has its North American headquarters.

Its aim is to help visitors see the Detroir suburb as a leader in automation and technology. The welded robotic arm – with more than a seven-foot reach – was unveiled on Wednesday 12 August near the city’s southern border.

It is the wish that the welded arm acts as a reminder of the efforts made over the past 20 years to exert Detroit’s dominance in the automobile industry – and to drive economic growth in other manufacturing sectors, as well as marketing the region as a hub of technology.
