On 11 March 2016, Mercedes-Benz plant Kassel produced its 100,000th Induction Pressure Welding axle for Mercedes-Benz trucks.
This unique technology enables steel to be welded casting parts with any contours. In this process, the main body of the axle, called the axle housings, is manufactured from three elements and adapted flexibly regarding to the regional vehicle and market requirements.
With the axle housings’ material mix reducing the overall weight of the rear axle and reducing fuel consumption in the Mercedes-Benz Actros, the environment is also a winner! Almost every new Mercedes-Benz Actros drives with an optimized rear axle. In addition, the IPS axles are also installed in the Mercedes-Benz Atego and Axor trucks.
So…this accomplishment is certainly something for the welding industry to be proud of!
