Over 100 Students Participate in Welding Competition

Friday 8 January saw 118 high school students compete at the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show’s welding competition at Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds in Robstown, Texas, USA.

Students were selected from 22 high schools in the area, with 70 taking part in the plate welding content and 23 teams for pipe welding. Contestants were judged under American Welding Society Standards by judges including Ellery Francisco, chairman of the AWS Section 153-Corpus Christi and certified welding inspector for Gas & Supply.

Eloisa Castro of Orange Groves High School won the first place of the pipe competition and is studying at the Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend as part of a dual-credit program at her school. Graduating in May, Eloisa will be able to apply the skills, knowledge and experience gained whilst studying to a professional welding career.
