2020 Audi Q5 recalled for welding fault

According to the manufacturer, a potential fault with the welding could cause the backrest adjuster to break in a collision.

Audi Australia has issued a recall on eight examples of its Q5 SUV, citing incorrect welding.

The affected vehicles were sold between June and July, 2020 (MY2020).

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says “due to incorrect welding, the gap on the adjusting mechanism for the backrest of the front seats may be faulty”.

“In the event of a rear collision, the backrest adjuster could break, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants,” it continues.

“In the event of a serious accident, this could result in death of a vehicle occupant.”

The manufacturer is currently in the process of contacting affected owners.
